Singapore

Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a modern-state and island country in Southeast Asia. It lies off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and is 137 kilometers (85 mi) north of the equator. The country's territory consists of the diamond-shaped main island, commonly referred to as Singapore Island in English and Pulau Ujong in Malay, and more than 60 significantly smaller islets. Singapore is separated from Peninsular Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to the north, and from Indonesia's Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to the south. The country is highly urbanised, and little of the original vegetation remains. The country's territory has consistently expanded through land reclamation. This is what I see while riding the taxi from the Changi Airport. Rows and rows of old trees. Everything is green---trees everywhere.

As for our first night, our hotel is somewhere in Chinatown.
It's the Year of the Goat.

I purposely take a photo of this...one of the many buildings where Singaporeans stay.

Another interesting old tree along the way....

There is no wasting of time....Marina Bay Sands Hotel.....one of the best architectures seen in Singapore.

Inside the Marina Bay Sands Hotel... lots of high-end stores...has it's own river inside..

I am surrounded by these tall buildings...I wonder where Spiderman is..

Outside the Marina Bay Sands...

At the highest floor..there is this connecting bridge that goes to the other side of the road...
I am so mesmerized with the backdrop...like flowing tins swaying as the breeze blows.

Another view of the Marina Bay Sands...

Supertree Grove
These unique trees of up to 16 storeys in height can be found all around the Gardens - twelve at the Supertree Grove, while the remaining six are placed in clusters of threes at the Golden and Silver Gardens.

Providing scale and dimension to the Gardens while marrying the form and function of mature trees, the Supertrees also create height to balance the tall developments in the Marina Bay area. Take a stroll along the OCBC Skyway, a 128-metre long walkway with a height of 22-metres that connects two Supertrees at the Supertree Grove, and take in a different view of the Gardens. Chill out at the 50-metre Supertree-top bistro and be captivated by the panoramic views of the Gardens as well as the surrounding Marina Bay area. Sis admiring it on a different perspective...

11 Supertrees are embedded with environmentally sustainable functions like photovoltaic cells to harvest solar energy.

Supertrees are made of four parts: reinforcement concrete core, trunk, planting panels of the living skin, and canopy.

Over 162,900 plants comprising more than 200 species and varieties of bromeliads, orchids, ferns and tropical flowering climbers are planted on the Supertrees.

The Merlion (Malay: Singa-Laut) is a traditional creature in western heraldry that depicts a creature with a lion head and a body of a fish.
In Singapore, it has become a marketing icon used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merlion)

Merlions do not feature in any local folklore or myths of Singapore, and was only used in Singapore initially as the logo for the tourism board.

From the other side of the Merlion...

As we go through their subways....
 Bull's eye...

Finally settling in at Shangrila Hotel, Singapore...

TRICK EYE MUSEUM
Still within Sentosa World Resorts
Trick Eye is short for ‘Trick of the eye’, which refers to an art technique that turns two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional images through the use of optical illusions. With that, 2D paintings on the museum walls, floors and ceilings appear to pop out of the surface and come to life. Visitors are more than welcome to explore the various themed galleries with their eyes, hands and even cameras. Step inside the paintings to complete a visual narrative with your creative poses, and watch a “tricky” story unfold before your camera. At Trick Eye Museum, you’ll be creating unforgettable memories with friends and family amid fun and laughter, with a dash of educational and cultural enrichment.

 Please touch! Museum

You won’t find signs such as ‘Don’t Touch’ or ‘No Flash’. We highly encourage everyone to touch and take photos of all displayed works. If you are looking for an unusual experience, Trick Eye Museum is the perfect place to share this extraordinary experience with friends and family.

Step inside or crawl into the exhibits. Interact with the characters and become the subject of the artwork on display. This almost surreal gallery is a must-have on your to-do list...

Visit their website:  http://www.rwsentosa.com/language/en-US/Homepage/Attractions/TrickEyeMuseum

Trick and be tricked! Get ready for more than 80 optical illusion paintings and installations which will boggle your mind and make you do a double take. Be sure your camera is fully charged with plenty of memory space before your visit.

 STREETS  OF  SINGAPORE
Lau Pa Sat Food Hawker Centre in Singapore
In the heart of the financial district, surrounded by the tallest buildings in Singapore you will find Lau Pa Sat, one of the most popular food markets in the city.

Come here to try the local delicacies, chicken rice, satay and kaya toast, as well as the other dishes that make up the varied cuisine on offer in Singapore.

Although there are plenty of places to try these dishes, Lau Pa Sat is the ideal location to find them all under one roof, and the setting is far more romantic than most hawker centres, especially at night when the satay vendors set up stalls outside.

ORCHARD  ROAD
As I go shopping...I see these structures that are eye-catching...

As I end my trip in Singapore....
Traveling makes me speechless...
but when I start taking photos...
I then become a storyteller.

Til my next blog...thank you.
