Bode Museum, Berlin

The Baroque Bode Museum, the fourth museum to be built as part of Berlin’s Museum Island on the Spree was completed in 1904. It was designed by court architect Ernst von Ihne under Kaiser Wilhelm II. Intended as a museum for European Renaissance art, it was named after its first director Wilhelm von Bode (1845-1929) in 1956. Reopening to the public in October 2006, the museum brought together the sculpture and Byzantine art collection.

The museum’s treasures include the sculpture collection with works of art from the middle ages to the 18th century.

A dominating dome and two opulent staircases give the building the appearance of being stately. Seen from the water, the museum gives the impression of a gigantic ship above the waterline.

Museum Berggruen--PICASSO....Berlin, Germany

Heinz Berggruen’s collection, opened to the public in 1996, is one of Berlin’s most popular modern art galleries, situated opposite the Schloss Charlottenberg.
More than 100 exhibits of Picasso's work form the centrepiece of the collection.
Pablo Ruiz y Picasso, also known as Pablo Picasso (Spanish: [ˈpaβlo piˈkaso]; 25 October 1881 –
8 April 1973), was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France.

All facets of his work are represented in this museum: beginning with a drawing from his student days in 1897 and ending with works he painted in 1972, one year before he died.

As one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.

When I was still teaching, we studied Pablo Picasso ..and my students did their own interpretation of Picasso's Cubism. This is why I get to admire his paintings.

Berggruen continued to purchase works after the museum's opening in 1996, including Picasso's important 1909 painting Houses on the Hill (Horta de Ebro) from the Museum of Modern Art in New York. A total of 165 works were transferred from Berggruen to the PCHF in the 2000 sale.

Food Tripping...in Berlin, Germany

What is nice about  Berlin, it is not that expensive (compared to other cities in Germany). Food is easily available, ...Italian food is also superb.
Ok...I will try my best not to overwhelm you with the food selfies....

Pretzels on the go...

Ken's pork ribs....yeah...very American

I'm just playing with my camera... :)

Fresh fruits...

Hotdog on a bun....

Ok..now this is very German.....sausage sprinkled with curry powder (not spicy)
what makes this yummy is the sauce...not just catsup and mayo...
I think they added some other spices

Onion soup....with sour cream

Some kinda hamburger with curry powder (not spicy) and the sauce

Grilled pork with sauerkraut  and potatoes

I forgot what Ken ordered..but it was good...

We go Asian-y....easily available anywhere...

Noodles topped with stir-fried veggies and chicken.....

A sample German menu....

Turkish dish...some kinda omelet with veggies inside, fried rolled bread, with condiments.
You have to excuse me...Ken did not tell me the name of this dish...'just trying my best
to describe it....it was good, actually.

Supposedly Invented in Berlin..... Although Germany may be more commonly associated with sausages of all kinds, the number one street food that is found everywhere would be the döner kebap sandwich.

You'd have a hard time finding an inner-city workplace where no one is having a döner for lunch,
One of my faves ...
.Doner....it's everywhere, so I can survive.

Doner kebab is a Turkish dish made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie, normally lamb but also a mixture of veal or beef with these, or sometimes chicken. The dish is also widely known by its Arabic name "shawarma" or the Greek name "gyros"

German  cheesecake.....hmmm...hmm...
